Anima Banks, an alumni of Mamaroneck High School, has had a great deal of success in her five year running career. Her success started at Mamaroneck High School, where she graduated in 2012, with three individual state titles and a scholarship to run at Duke University. She won two indoor state titles in the 1000m run, setting the school record of 2:48.17 during her junior year. She also won an outdoor state title in the 800m run her junior year, but opted out of running her senior year due to a conflict with prom. As well as success at many State Championships, Banks placed third at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the 800 her senior year, setting the current school record of 2:08.77. The 2015-2016 season has been a historic one for the Mamaroneck High School track team. This winter, the team’s runners have dominated the competition, and broken several school records. On Feb. 21, the runners continued to build on their historic season with a strong showing at state qualifiers, which took place at The Armory in New York City. Lauren Chapey ’16 had an incredible cross country season this past fall, becoming one of the nation’s fastest runners. She worked for timeless hours every day, whether it was running the necessary miles or doing strength training. Some of her achievements from this season include, but are not limited to: Westchester County Champion, 8th place finish at New York State Championships, 12th place finish at the New York Federation Championship (combination of all the classes), and 67th place at Nike Cross Country Nationals.
