This afternoon’s NYSSWA Boys Soccer rankings had a new team at number one in Class AA. Ranked seventh last week, Mamaroneck used two wins over league foes Mount Vernon, 1-0, and New Rochelle, 2-1, to catapult to number one in the latest set of rankings.
Since losing to Yorktown, the only other section one team to appear in this week’s rankings, on September 12th, the Tigers have rattled off wins in eight of their last nine contests; the team’s only slip-up came in a September 28th meeting with White Plains when the two played to a 1-1 tie.
With only three regular season games remaining, Mamaroneck is closing in on the top seed in section one, which would ensure home field until the sectional final (at Lakeland High School).
In the meantime, the Tigers will look to defend their new state ranking tonight at 7pm at home vs. Warwick.
