The Mamaroneck Varsity Field Hockey Team is back and ready for action. Returning from two consecutive State Championships, the girls and coaches alike commence the new season with a sense of pride sourcing from their successful past and a hunger for the opportunity of the future.

Although the team lost many valuable players to graduation, the talent returning presents a promising future. In goal, the team can confidently rely on last year’s State Championship Player of the Game, Charlotte Mackie ‘17 along with Katie Rasor ‘18 and Emma Nishimura ‘18. Emily Mahland ‘18 returns for another season of solid defense and captains Sophie Miller ‘17 and Paige Danehy ‘17 will dominate the midfield. The All-Section players, Danehy and Miller, were recently selected to the “Elite 11” by The Journal News, recognizing their outstanding production last season and the expectation of an exciting season ahead. Additionally, Brigid Knowles ‘19 and Elizabeth Brissette ‘19 provide promise for the future of the program. Thus far, the team is 8-1-1, shutting out Arlington, 7-0, Fox Lane, 6-0, Horace Greeley, 2-0, North Rockland, 9-0, and Clarkstown, 5-0. Charlotte Mackie expressed her excitement for this season, saying, “We are getting on track. We are playing great and meshing together as a team.” Sophie Miller shared Mackie’s optimism and enthusiasm, explaining, “This year the team is excited to prove what we are capable of. At the beginning of each season, we always set our goal to the highest standard: winning a state championship. Now that we are in the swing of our regular season, we focus on one game at a time and work hard towards each win.”
