This season, the Mamaroneck Boys’ Soccer team has a lot of potential. The Tigers are coming off a 13-win season in which they reached the Sectional Semi-final. They have high expectations, hoping to reach new heights of success given their large group of returning seniors.
Ten out of eleven starters returned for this season, including goalie Dante Rhodes ‘17 and the entirety of the defense and midfield. The team is coached by Mr. Mangan and Mr. Becker, and captained by Cameron Richards ‘17, Matt Dicicco ‘17, and Jack Spiridellis ‘17.
When asked about the team’s goals for this season, captain Jack Spiridellis said, “As a team, our goal this year is to bring home a section championship. We look to do that with a dedicated and skilled group of guys that work well as a team. With one of the toughest schedules in Section 1, we’re going to take it one game at a time and continue to get better every day.”
The Tigers typically play a 4-3-3 formation with Max Margiotta ‘17, Thomas Howse ‘17, Jack Spiridellis and David Sollod ‘17 on defense from left to right. Cameron Richards ‘17, Alex Alma ‘17, and Matt Dicicco ‘17 make up the midfield, and Connor LeBlanc ‘17, Noel Vidal ‘17, and Cole Dicicco ‘18 play up top.
Going into this season, the team was projected to win the section title. It jumped off to a fast 6-1 start, with their sole loss coming against Yorktown, another highly ranked team from section 1. The Tigers have already been tested by a lot of tough opponents but seem prepared to make a run deep into sectionals and hopefully beyond.
